The Keep Philosophy

“As little as possible, as much as necessary”

The Philosophy behind The Keep Eco Residence

Ralph, The Keep’s founder says its best:

“It’s important to us, above all else, that the available resources are carefully handled and respected. We breathe life into used items and materials that are thoughtlessly disposed of in order to reduce the waste that has so badly damaged our Earth.

For example, when we look at an old chair, we see a piece of art with character. It’s not trash – it’s an opportunity. We will upholster it and give it new life. Firstly, we don’t throw it away because of the toxins that would result in its disposal and secondly, by recycling or reusing it, we are optimizing the Earth’s resources. That is the epitome of The Keep.”

Making the World a Better Place

In a world where an unfathomable amount of resources are wasted, we are doing our part in “keeping” the necessary and letting go of the unnecessary.

We know that “sustainable” and “eco-conscious” are words that get thrown around a lot, but at The Keep Eco Residence, we live by our philosophy of leaving a positive ecological footprint every single day and inspire guests to do the same.

We do this by adopting a cradle-to-cradle design from top to bottom.

What exactly is cradle-to-cradle design?

Think of the regenerative cycle of natural systems. In nature, when an organism dies, it eventually breaks down into nutrients to feed other organisms. In other words, the death of an animal or plant breathes life into another. Cradle-to-cradle design at The Keep works in the same way.

Upgraded from old materials

Most of what you see in the building - including furniture, doors, windows, utensils and more - have been upgraded from old materials and now function as if they were brand new.

In the case that new materials are required, they’re used to their full potential then recycled, or even upcycled, to be used for the same purpose or a different aspect of the residence.

This closed loop keeps all materials within our ecosystem, leaving it completely free of waste.

Un unforgettable experience

From room furnishings and refurbished doors to fresh locally-sourced ingredients and organic soap, each resource is optimized to create an unforgettable experience for our guests while protecting the environment.

Every day our guests help us breathe new life into the old and we hope that you can join us in this endeavour, too.
